Charles attended classes in English Literature at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. His favorite poets are Bukowski, Jim Morrison, Hart Crane and William Blake. Charles looks for inspiration in the simplest things, investing them with a strange poetic energy. He tightens every perception to a focal point of clarity and extracts meaning from the most compact phrases. His love for music influences his compositions. Charles enjoys the rich tapestry of language, imagery and sound in poetry, particularly works by the French decadent poets. His poetry has appeared in Remark, and the Argotist Online.

Buk
They call this
poetry, and it is,
but it's also
sentences chopped
like liver and onions.
Every time
I take a drink
from this wine
of inspiration
I think
of the grapes
that were crushed
by huge metal feet,
and I think
of how my head
is going
to feel in
the morning.
Words
My poems have
no power,
no faith,
no hope -
the paper
or screen
a mere reflection
of letters from
a lost soul
and, like a mirror,
always silent -
even when
I know
the words
are screaming.
Muse
Dark thoughts fascinate me,
Inspire me, consume me,
I'm addicted to life's midnight.
A pen is my needle,
The paper my spoon;
My muse the purifying fire.
I mainline velvet words,
Alluring, black on the page;
A beautiful, cleansing rebellion.
My inspiration's spirit coughs,
Slowly ebbs, a little weaker,
Dying with each line's exorcism.
The muse's flame flickers,
The time has come, as it will to us all;
It gently gives up its ghost.
A carbon mist rises to the heavens,
Whispering for me to follow.
But it's not time, not yet.
My eyes watch the smoke fade
As lament's salty liquid
Signs the poem.

(Each species in the animal kingdom is a tile in the immensely complicated mosaic of nature. In particular, wild animals have always exercised an irresistible, arcane fascination for man. Their capacity to confront life solely with the strength of their own natural resources, are the very things that make them most fascinating. Montegrappa has taken inspiration from such animals, honoring these creatures most powerfully endowed with symbolic value and most prominent in world mythology, to forge Animalia.
