Versed
It's been awhile
since I've heard from words,
the kind that
lean together
in grasp of memory
or drift on feeling's edge
with mood in mind.
I miss the ones
with much to say
found sauntering
in shadows, and those
whose job it is
to rattle like maracas
and shake
all caution out.
I can't forget a few
who speak the language
of fragility,
or those I trust
to bridge a seeming void.
Still,
when their whereabouts
are puzzling, and
I yearn to see them
gather on the page,
experience knows
not one
would show up late
for an audition, or
miss its chance
atop the parchment stage.

A Matter of Punctuation
Surely you know
our time together
was punctuated by extremes--
a sort of crazy bliss with
exclamation points, that always
led to sullen lows
and twice as many question marks.
I hear you say
the highs magically cancel out
uncertainties: If only! I muse,
but it's not that simple.
I want a connection
with commas in-between and
haven't a clue yet where I'll go,
but I'm headed down
the middle road
with ampersand
and ellipsis in tow.
