Alan King's poems have appeared in Audience, Alehouse, Beltway
Poetry Quarterly, Boxcar Review, and MiPoesias, among others.
When the Cave Canem fellow and Vona Alum is not sending out poems
to numerous journals, he's chasing the muse through Washington, D.C.— people watching with his boys and laughing at the crazy things strangers
say to get close to one another.

American City Movie Diner
That morning, clouds loofahed
the sky's massive blue back,
while rain water beaded
a glass pane like shower tile.
You smiled as if the sheen-slick
streets and wind-whipped
curtain of rain were stolen
from a movie script, or
as if that moment were
adapted from a novel.
You locked your fingers with
mine as if this scene was
before the on-screen kiss,
as if we weren't in a diner
waiting to be seated. |
