Morning Coyote
A blur of footsteps
Up steep snow,
Then you turn, glance back,
Muzzle sharp as an Aztec blade
Against exploding snowlight,
Obsidian
Pointed at my breast.
Across alpine waters,
I feel your eyes,
Your predator’s appraisal,
Colder than the lake’s still frozen heart,
Swifter than wind-ripples.
Survival math done, you
Flicker
Into granite shadows. |
